Self Control – Who is the Master of the House? Consider -Wife & Husband

3

Most women consider themselves the head of the household and

sometimes forget to consider their husband’s opinion in matters

that concern their house. Neglecting her husband once or twice,

will surely cause the husband to careless about house

requirements, and get busy in his own business, and that is not a

good partnership and not keeping good relations in the family.

But not to blame the women, men too, are often much busy

in their jobs outside the house and don’t take their time to

discuss home matters with their wives. Lack of communication

causes conflicts and cross opinions in provisions and plans for

the family and social needs.

1

In our story Simon had a big fishing project and should

have set some plans and required some referrals and testings, to

see what works and what doesn’t, which kept him busy for the

period in which Jesus was expected to move his house from

Nazareth to Capernaum, the city where he lives. His wife decided

to invite Jesus for a banquette, once he arrives and settles in

Capernaum, and that made him angry because it will spoil his

plans, and she should have asked him first.

4

Maybe he got angry, because his mother in law was the

main planner for this event, and this made his wife accomplish

her mother’s will before asking her husband. We should guess

that she thought that will be fine with him, and he will not object

what mom asks. After all she was his everyday beloved guest and

always deserving his honor.

2

What about his project? That might spoil all his plans!

It is not that he was a nervous character, but rather the

situation, made him feeling mad. Mom was affirming the

invitation and even inviting all friends and relatives, though he

didn’t even guess what was decided during his absence. He was

about to erupt in his wrath, but because of the presence of

Zebedee his friend and partner, he controlled himself.

Did this ever happen to you, that when you are almost

going to react in a bad manner, you control yourself, because of

the presence of honorable friends and guests, not to exhibit your

bad manners in front of them? You want to keep the positive

impression they have about you, hiding the bad manners you

hold within.

It is not bad at all as long as our reactions are controllable, and it

would be a wise reason to keep close friends and honorable

people we know, in our vicinity.

Simon will always teach us a lesson through his stories and

adventures, and this is one of many that we learn in the third

Episode of the Series “Stories of Simon” which is: “The Fishing

Project”.
